Shan Poornam: 2023 Group GHG Inventory Reports (GHG Protocol)ESG Reporting, GHG Emissions, and PCF Assessments

Shan Poornam GHG Inventory
Shan Poornam Metals Sdn. Bhd. (SPM), established in 1960, is a leading Malaysian company specializing in industrial hazardous waste management and recycling. Licensed by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia, SPM focuses on converting industrial waste into raw materials, with expertise in recovering and refining precious metals.

SuSciCo collaborated with Shan Poornam Metals to enhance their sustainability initiatives by developing an ESG report in compliance with Bursa Malaysia requirements and conducting a comprehensive GHG inventory for the group and its six subsidiaries.

challenge

Internal and SuSciCo’s teams faced significant challenges in developing comprehensive GHG Inventory reports for the group and its six subsidiaries. Accurately measuring emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories required gathering high-quality data from diverse sources, including energy consumption, transportation, waste, and employee commuting. Ensuring consistency and completeness of data was further complicated by the unique operational characteristics of each subsidiary. Additionally, meeting regulatory standards and creating a consolidated report for the group demanded meticulous planning and alignment with the GHG Protocol.

solution

To address these challenges, SuSciCo provided tailored GHG inventory solutions for Shan Poornam. We conducted comprehensive emissions assessment for Scope 1 (e.g., energy consumption, refrigerant leakage, and chemical processes), Scope 2 (electricity and renewable energy use), and relevant Scope 3 categories, including business travel, employee commuting, and waste.

Seven GHG inventory reports were developed—one for each subsidiary and a consolidated report for the group—ensuring consistency and accuracy. Data collection processes were streamlined across all subsidiaries, and operational flowcharts were created to capture emissions sources systematically. SuSciCo’s expertise ensured full compliance with global standards, delivering actionable insights to support emission reduction strategies.

results

Through SuSciCo’s support, Shan Poornam successfully developed seven comprehensive GHG Inventory reports, meeting international standards and regulatory requirements. The reports provided detailed insights into emissions across all scopes, enabling the identification of key reduction opportunities.

By consolidating data into a group-level report, the company achieved greater transparency and alignment in its sustainability goals. This initiative strengthened Shan Poornam’s position as an environmentally responsible organization, ready to take informed actions to mitigate its carbon footprint.
